Whether you are with a lot of people today, or with a small gathering, we truly hope that you enjoy your day. As for food, back in 2001, I had the bright idea of taking my children to the Annual Thanksgiving Parade in Detorit! I had gone once as a child, and it was a terrific experience. I wanted them to have the same joy! My plan was to take everybody out for a large and delicious breakfast before heading downtown. As I had not been out of my house in 15-20 years on the morning of Thanksgiving, I just assumed that restaurants would be open for business. Um, I was wrong! Restaurant after restaurant was closed, as we found only one McDonald's (they were giving away free pancakes, so the line was a mile long). Looking at the prospect of driving downtown for the parade on empty stomachs, perhaps hoping to find a vendor on the street, we had one last hope ...... White Castle! We ordered several breakfast sandwiches from the drive-through window and headed for downtown, knowing that time was of the essence. As soon as we bit into our sandwiches, we realized that there was more water (yes, WATER!) on the sandwiches than eggs and bacon. Somehow, we survived the awful food, made it to the parade route just in time to see the beginning, and a good time was had by all. Needless to say, we were starving by the time that Thanksgiving dinner rolled around, thereby "forcing" us to eat more than ever! All of the stomach murmuring from that morning is long forgotten, as is the memory of those awful concoctions that were labeled as "breakfast sandwiches" ("weather on a bun" would have been more accurate!). We are left with the memories of a grand and glorious parade, terrific family camaraderie, all followed by a football game or two, and finished off by the most delicious and desired Thanksgiving dinner ever!
